- The Vegetarian Society of the U.K. (VSUK) publishes the "International
- Vegetarian Travel Guide", which concentrates on Vegetarian Restaurants
- & guesthousts in England & Europe, listing establishments for each
- city in every country. Phone & order the 1992 guide. It's about 4
- pounds, and you can put it on your Mastercard or Visa. Using a credit
- card avoids the conversion problem. ATTENTION: from the USA, be SURE
- to specify AIR-MAIL, or it'll take two months by ship. The
- International Vegetarian Travel Guide "Lists hundreds of places to eat
- out & stayover!". The Vegetarian Handbook "The guide to living a
- vegetarian lifestyle!" about 3 pounds. Also, you can become a member
- of VSUK via phone, and then you'd receive their [great] magazine "The
- Vegetarian" and the Vegetarian Handbook. They also have a children's
- quarterly magazine. I think the magazine is 10 pounds. With membership
- 16 pounds. Airmail delivery is 10 pounds additional. Their phone
- number is 44 (061) 928-0793. Mailing address is: VSUK; Parkdale,
- Dunham Road; Altrincham, Cheshire WA14 4QG; ENGLAND.

- - It's wonderful...probably pretty expensive compared to some US
- restaurants but probably pretty reasonable compared to most Parisian

- stuff is ovo-lacto.
-
- | Le Grenier de Notre Dame, 18 Rue de la Bucherie, 75005 Paris
- | 43.29.98.29 (Metro: St Michel - Notre Dame)
- | - An excellent alternative for vegetarians in Paris. The vegetarian

- Germany
- ______________________________________________________________________
-
-
- Germany has a chain of 'health food' stores called "Reformhaus". This
- chain is not recommended though because the food is expensive and not
- "biological" (i.e. comes from 'normal' farmers), and there's always a
- waste of packing material. Look for stores with `Bio-Laden' or
- `Naturkostladen' in their names, they're usually better.
-
- There are several guides of vegetarian restaurants in Germany around.
- You should get them in almost every `Bio-Laden'.
-
-
- Berlin
- ------
-
- There are literally hundreds of health food stores in Berlin,
- especially in districts like Berlin-Kreuzberg, where the `alternative
- culture' is quite popular. There is a health food store or health food
- restaurant on every other street corner.
-
- There is also a wealth of vegetarian restaurants in Berlin. In
- addition Indian restaurants and pizzerias usually serve several
- vegetarian meals. There are numerous Indian restaurants in the center
- of Berlin. It might help to have a look into the Yellow Pages under
- the section `Gaststaetten'.
-
-
- Vegetarian Restaurants:
-
- Hakuin, Martin-Luther-Str. 1, 1000 Berlin 30
- - Probably the most popular vegetarian restaurant in Berlin. Operated
- by German Buddhist monks. Buddhist atmosphere. Meals are somewhat
- asian and very good. Small. Expensive. Main room is non-smoking.
-
- Restaurant Thuernagel, Gneisenaustr. 57, 1000 Berlin 61 (Kreuzberg)
- - Inexpensive, customers are mainly young people.
-
- Restaurant/Cafe Tiago, Knesebeckstr. 15, 1000 Berlin 12
- (Charlottenburg)
- - Inexpensive, customers are mainly students from the nearby
- university. Ex-`Baghwan' restaurant.
-
- Hollyfood, Zossener Str. 61, 1000 Berlin 61 (Kreuzberg)
- - Health food snack bar.
-
- | La Maskera, Gustav-Mueller-Str. 1, 10829 Berlin, phone 7841227
- | - vegetarian; they even know what "vegan" means ("You can have
- | any dish in a vegan version," said the chef, "well, anything
- | but lasagne." Hm.) The dishes are mainly Italian style.
-
- |
- Health Food Stores With Snack Bars:
-
- Einhorn (Unicorn), Wittenbergplatz ??, Berlin, near Wittenbergplatz
- underground station
- - Bio-Laden. Good food. Open 10am-6pm.
-
- Zweihorn, Mommsenstr./Knesebeckstr., parallel to the Kurfuerstendamm
- - Bio-Laden. Good food. Open 10am-6pm.
-
- ???, Mehringdamm 46, 1000 Berlin 61
- - I have forgotten it's name, but it's good.
-
-
- Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants:
-
- Maharadscha, Fuggerstr. 21, 1000 Berlin 30
- - Indian. Inexpensive. Central location.
-
- Maharani, Fuggerstr. 18, 1000 Berlin 30
- - Indian. Inexpensive. Directly opposite of Maharadscha, so if you
- don't get a seat in one of them, just cross the road...
-
- India Palace, Leibnizstr. 35, 1000 Berlin 12
- - Indian. Very good vegetarian dishes; central location.
-
- Tandoory, Prinz-Georg-Str. 10, 1000 Berlin 62
- - Indian.
-
- Katschkol, Pestalozzistr. 84, 1000 Berlin 62

-
- Cafe Campus, Str. des 17. Juni, 1000 Berlin 10 (ASTA-Villa, behind
- Math-Dept)

- mainly students and people working at the university.
-
-

- - Wide choice, very good food, reservation absolutely necessary.
- (Western Part of town, close to peripheral annular motorway.)
-
- Jahreszeiten Vollwert Restaurant, Sebastiansplatz 9
- - Excellent. Good variety for vegans, just ask. I would consider the
- food here to be "local" food.
